day 2 – on a frosty morning

this morning everything was covered with the most beautiful hoar frost and a light dusting of snow. I wanted so much to stop my car and just wander around in the -15C air with my camera but sadly did not have time to do so (it’s the whole getting to work on time thing that I am dealing with… )

For day 2 of my 30 days of gratitude, I am grateful for the following:

1. being awake and outside when the sun rises and being able to appreciate that moment when the light hits everything.

2. my camera

3. patience and silence – two dear friends that I often neglect. I have been raging against you both for awhile now and I just wanted to say, I appreciate you, even though sometimes I want to punch you.

4. my body – even though you are aching and stiff this morning after yesterday’s workout, you are a trooper and doing 300m in 14min 36 sec after not swimming for a year is encouraging. I am going to push you even farther tomorrow.

  1. You started a blog just for the 30 day gratitude challenge? How cool, Leigh-Anne! I am glad you posted it on Facebook. (I’m sorry, I just started laughing when re-reading about your friends who you want to punch. I’ve had a few of those, too. Lately have been attempting to realize that everyone is exactly where they need to be in the moment. And expressing–trying to express gratitude–for their perfect responses from the awarenesses they are now. Does that make sense?)

    Also admiring your swimming pledge…

  3. Hi Kathy – yes, just for the challenge. I just love the idea – and the timing really was perfect. Yesterday was exactly 30 days before my birthday… I can’t think of a better way of spending the next 30 days sitting in gratitude for my life at the moment. I finally figured out how to to post it in FB without having to go directly and post a link (which I don’t always have time to do).

I am glad that you laughed btw about my friends patience and silence 😉 I don’t really want to punch them… or do I? Maybe silence … well ok yes both of them sometimes make me crazy 😛

“Lately have been attempting to realize that everyone is exactly where they need to be in the moment. And expressing–trying to express gratitude–for their perfect responses from the awarenesses they are now. Does that make sense?” —-> yes this makes perfect sense. Everyone is where they are right now – good or bad or ugly, it’s just where they are. I think if we (and I am very guilty of not doing this lately) are able to respond from that point of view, of being aware that everyone is exactly where they need to be right now, then a lot of anxiety or unnecessary suffering just falls away. It opens the heart up to sit in the moment like that. Then, however someone responds or even reacts to you is received in a different way – less closed, more open and accepting. It’s a good lesson for me anyway, and something I am committed to practicing not just for the next 30 days but well beyond that too 😉

Ah my swimming pledge – yes. I committed myself to another challenge – a health and wellness challenge that the staff at work are working together on… (which I am also blogging about here: http://climbingthestairs.wordpress.com/ ) Part of that commitment is to swim twice a week. It also happens that in the middle of this 12 week challenge is the Swim-A-Thon and I have always enjoyed swimming in it (11 years this year)… so it all is working together nicely.

    thanks for stopping by!!
