this is not a love poem
or a tale of counting
the heartbeats until I see you again
I did not lose count
and start over
because the aching
left in the space between kisses
was too much to bear
this is not a love poem
to tell you
how much life has changed
even the sun shines
more brightly
than it did before
or how the world
falls away when
we are together
this is not a love poem
or a story or a song
but if it were
all I would say to you
is this.
I love you
and that is all.
