I am in the process of going through an old portfolio and I found a poem I wrote five years ago…. I was going to delete it, but decided to tuck it away here. Maybe one day I will be brave and bring both the music and lyrics together, just not today.
On a September morning
I wake up and you are gone
The house is empty still, without you
But it’s not in me to hold on
Oh my dear, the wind is whispering your name
Calling you out to the wide open roads again
Across the golden fields
Through the mountains
To the sea
Under the clear blue sky
Will you remember me?
Every time I think of your goodbye
It still brings tears to my eyes
But I am letting you go
Because I know
I know
Oh my dear, the wind is whispering your name
Calling you out to the wide open roads again
Across the golden fields
Through the mountains
To the sea
Under the clear blue sky
Will you remember me?
I’m praying that you don’t
Get lost along the way…
If you do, my love…
If the sun fades away
May you always find a place to rest
At the end of your day
Oh my dear
The wind is whispering your name
Calling you out
To the wide open roads again
Across the golden fields
Through the mountains
To the sea
Only one thing that I ask
As you go on your way
Always remember me
Always remember me

Thanks 🙂 I wrote this during a difficult time after the end of my marriage. It feels healing to share now after some time has passed.

Hi Anne…..like an oldie, I must have not clicked some icon and therefore missed out many of your postings. This particular posting reminds me of songs like “Sept Morn” and “Fields of Barley “….all with sounds of sad separation/pain…knowing that a golden phase has passed. I have been through these phases and am in tune with this poem….

thank you! I don’t believe it is because you are an “oldie” my friend. Instead, i think it is the way the blog template was laid out. It is not easy to find the posts. I am not sure if this new template will help, but the side panel at least now has a listing of recent posts. It is easy to miss things- don’t worry!
i am happy that you can relate to the poem. it is not easy, those difficult times when the ‘golden age’ passes. I know I have struggled to find acceptance of those changes, but with time I am getting better with it.
