I am more than this body

contemplation (1)

I am more than this body
this skin and folded flesh

I am more than these arms
that have pulled and pushed
that have consoled and loved
lifted and reached

I am more than these toes
that have stood and waivered
that have tripped and slid
turned and walked

I am more than these eyes
that have watched and cried
that have seen and wondered
closed and slept

I am more than this body
this skin and folded flesh
I am more than these hands
that have held death and life
dirt and wind

I am more

in stillness you found me

blackbird

in stillness
you found me
in the quiet darkest moment
given up
last breath forgotten
you held my hand
and saved me

I look to the sun, the sky
for answers

why? why do I turn
instead of watching
your face in the afternoon sun?

thoughts diverted
into chasms of sand
dried up water channels
the remains of last year’s storms

your touch reminds me
breathe

your smile reminds me
stay

your love reminds me
as the world falls away

you found me
in the quiet darkest moment
given up
last breath forgotten
you held my hand
and saved me

I want to remember every minute

I want to remember every minute
like they were snapshots placed
lovingly on the pages of an old album
so they become worn by thumbs
turning the pages,
faded by sunlight from sitting out
so long on the coffee table

I want to remember every breath
the ones that I missed
when you kissed me
the ones that fell away
when you looked into my eyes
the ones that perched on my lips
when you held my hand

I want to remember every word
every look, every feeling
because in the shortest heartbeat
I looked in the mirror and saw
someone I had never met before.
she was new, smiling and full of wonder
and I want to remember her
most of all

we stood

7052359157_423e859373_c

we stood
under silver canopy
in Jupiter’s eye
arm in arm
the hill held us
up to the sky

you held my face
to kiss me
the world fell away
there was only you
only me
and we floated there
with the night sky
for what felt like
eternity

we stood,
you and I
while the stars
marked their journey
you held me close
I felt your heartbeat
inside my chest

you, like a song, unfold
the broken wings
I have held hidden
for so long
and mend me with kisses,
unspoken words and music
that I had long forgotten

we stood
under a silver canopy
in Jupiter’s eye
the hill held us up to the sky
and shouted to the cosmos
thank you

in that perfect moment
I whispered to you,
to the universe,
to the moon
to our new beginning
all I can do is smile

I have wandered

I have wandered
in the very narrow fields
stepping carelessly
between the plowed rows
and wild grasses
turning to see the sun
between the guarding trees
drinking in the impossible blue

I have wandered
in the very narrow fields
singing with abandon
there, I have lost myself
weaving into tomorrow
the endless possibility
and gathering bright yellow
buttercups in one free hand

I have wandered
in the very narrow fields
tiptoeing as the sunset
and fireflies blink
in the twilight
and the fallow deer graze
easily in the shadows
I have been, I tell them
in a soft voice, wandering
they watch me with dark eyes
and dancing ears
with the faintest of smiles.
